Course Description: Calculus consists of a full academic year of work in calculus comparable to courses in colleges and universities. It is expected that you will seek credit or placement, or both from your choice of higher learning next year.
This course will emphasize a multi-representational approach to calculus, with concepts, results, and problems being expressed geometrically, numerically, analytically, graphically, and verbally. This is a demanding course and I will need a strong commitment on your part for us to be successful.

- Homework 15% - I expect that you come to class having done the homework and pre-read that day’s lesson in the textbook. Come to class ready to talk about the assignment and lesson. Conversation is an important part of mathematics. Assignments will be due the day after it is assigned with the possibility of a 1 day extension. Any homework assignment that is completed to a high degree and turned in on time may be resubmitted, prior to the test, to earn full credit .

- Quizzes 15% - I will allow quiz corrections for ⅓ of the credit added back onto the quiz score. Problems that are being corrected must explain the error, and the correct solution in addition to the corrected mathematics.
- Tests 70%
Grading: Your grade will be calculated by using total points from each of the above categories, with their applied weight. It is expected that you will maintain a minimum of a C, 70% to remain in this course, if you do not feel that you can maintain this rigorous goal, please come in and talk to me. The following scale will be used to calculate your grade:
90%-100% A
88%-89.99% A-
86%-87.99% B+
80%-85.99% B
78%-79.99% B-
76%-77.99% C+
70%-75.99% C
Study Tips for 2013-14 Calculus Course
- Read the section in the textbook for the general content before coming to class.
- As soon after class as possible, work through the homework assigned for that day.
- Learning calculus takes practice and patience. If at first you don’t succeed; try, try again.
- Use your graphing calculator as a tool. Your calculator should aid your knowledge of calculus, not replace your understanding of the fundamental principles.
- Work at a deliberate and methodical pace, without skipping steps.
- Keep up to date and current on your homework!!!!!
